The People Who Shaped Our Year: The Hands, Minds, and Moments That Mattered

Hi, how was your week?
Mine has been one of those where I needed to get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable.
And here's why:
This is the time every year when I usually take some time to build out the strategy for the next twelve months. The team maps out priorities, spots the opportunities, and decides what we want to create.
This year feels very different, almost terrifyingly so. As I look ahead to 2026, it is clear that we are in the midst of a once-in-a-lifetime transition in how we live, work, and interact with the world. Technology is accelerating, global politics and economics are shifting, and the world is moving in ways that make long-term planning more uncertain than ever.
So, I decided to take a different approach. Instead of forcing a strategy, I stepped back. It felt more important to understand what actually happened in 2025, because this year shaped all of us. It pushed us, challenged us, and forced us to grow. Before we look ahead to what could be even more challenging, we need to look back with clarity and humility.
Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing a reflection series on the people, lessons, mindset, and direction that defined our year at DCC.
But this time, I am not sharing this alone. You will also hear from Kayce, who stepped into a major role inside DCC and strengthened our systems and our delivery. You will also hear from Harry, whose ideas on influence and publishing have shaped how we think about the work ahead.
Today, we begin with the people, because nothing meaningful happened in 2025 without them.
THE PEOPLE WHO MADE IT HAPPEN
When I look back on 2025, one truth rises above everything else. Nothing we accomplished this year happened because of one person or one decision. It happened because of the people who showed up, collaborated with us, challenged us, and helped shape what Digital Content Creators has become.
Our Roundtable guest speakers set the tone for the entire year. They brought insight, experience, perspective, and honesty. Some reinforced what we believed. Others pushed us toward new ideas. Each conversation influenced the work we did and the way we thought about influence and publishing.
Our regular attendees became the fabric of our community. They arrived each week ready to engage, question, and learn. They helped create an environment where ideas could grow, and honest conversations became the expectation rather than the exception.
Our authors, publishers, and coaches pushed us to raise our game. This year, people came to us ready to build lasting work. Books with purpose. Courses that create transformation. Systems of influence that can stand the test of time. Their ambition made us better.
Inside DCC, our own evolution mattered just as much. We navigated a major transition when Kristine Lara moved on. Change like that can slow a company. Instead, something better happened. Kayce stepped in, took ownership, and strengthened the entire operation. She will share her own story, but from where I sit, her impact became one of the defining parts of our year.
Behind the scenes, our team and partners delivered on the most complex portfolio of projects we have taken on to date. Multi-stage publishing builds. Deep instructional design. Advanced eLearning development. Tight timelines and high expectations. None of it would have worked without the systems we created and the teamwork everyone committed to. This was the year our structure and our people moved as one.
As I look back, the lesson is clear. Our greatest accomplishments were never about the deliverables. They were about the people who made the deliverables possible.
FROM MY SEAT INSIDE DCC
From Kayce Gungob
This year taught me a lot about stepping into a moving role and growing while everything around me stayed in motion. Nothing slowed down when I joined DCC. I had to learn quickly, make decisions with limited context, and keep the work moving without losing the quality our clients expect. It stretched me in ways I didn’t see coming, and looking back, I’m glad it did.
A big part of my growth this year came from the people I met along the way. Meeting Jan while I was finishing my psychology degree changed how I thought about work and what’s possible. It pushed me to see potential in myself that I hadn’t fully recognized and set the tone for how I approached challenges this year.
When I joined DCC, Kristine Lara played a huge role in helping me transition smoothly. I am truly grateful for her. Her support, patience, and willingness to share her knowledge made all the difference. She gave me the foundation I needed from day one, teaching me the systems, how they keep projects on track, and how they make sure every step moves the project forward. Her guidance turned what could have been overwhelming into a clear path to responsibility and impact.
Once I had that grounding, I focused on finding my footing and raising the bar. I tightened communication, added structure, and made sure follow through wasn’t optional. With authors, designers, developers, and leadership all involved in every project, I took ownership of the operational side. On top of that, in our creative projects, I was able to experiment, try new approaches, and even have some fun along the way.
When I put the whole year into perspective, the theme is clear: Growth.
My own, the team’s, and the growth of every creator we supported. Watching ideas turn into finished books and seeing eLearning builds come together reminded me that our work has real impact.
This year was about stepping in, stepping up, and learning from the people who showed up at exactly the right time.
I’m grateful for every one of them. And I’m ready for everything we build next.
A THOUGHT ON PEOPLE AND INFLUENCE
From Johannes H. Westbroek MBA
This year reminded me that influence is not created in isolation. Every meaningful idea, every shift in perspective, and every breakthrough comes from the conversations we have and the people we engage with. The roundtables, the dialogue with authors and coaches, and the work we did inside DCC all reinforced this truth. Ideas gain momentum when people move them forward.
As we continued building The Influencer Is the Message and supported creators who want to make an impact, I saw how powerful it is when people stay connected to their message. The strongest work came from individuals who were willing to examine their ideas honestly, refine them, and express them with clarity and intention.
The pace of change this year was noticeable. The creators who thrived were the ones who stayed adaptable and open to new ways of thinking. They did not cling to old models. They stayed curious and willing to evolve. That mindset was present in every part of the work we did.
Inside DCC, I saw the same commitment. The willingness to refine systems, strengthen processes, and collaborate more deeply shaped the quality of what we produced. Strong ideas supported by strong execution defined the year.
My takeaway from 2025 is simple. Influence today is shaped by clarity, conversation, and connection.
It is not about making noise. It is about creating something that stands.
I am grateful for everyone who contributed to that effort this year, and I look forward to what we will build next.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
As we begin this reflection series, I want to leave you with one idea. Progress is not the result of perfect plans. It is the result of people who show up, contribute, and commit to doing the work well. That is what shaped 2025. That is what carried us through every challenge and every breakthrough. And that is the foundation we will build on in the weeks ahead.
Next Sunday, we will take an honest look at what worked, what did not, and the lessons we are carrying into 2026. For now, I want to thank everyone who played a part in this year. You helped shape a year that mattered.
Warmly,
Jan
